Work Package 2: Integrate Heat and Cool

Objective

Work Package 2 aims to develop an innovative thermal system utilizing natural refrigerants for industrial heating and cooling applications. The system will harness medium-temperature geothermal energy (around 100°C) alongside other renewable and industrial heat sources. This work package lays the foundation for creating a scalable, efficient prototype, advancing sustainable energy solutions for industrial processes.

Key Goals:

  • Define operating conditions specific to the pilot case and other potential applications.
  • Develop efficient system layouts, including cascading different refrigerants for optimal performance.
  • Design critical components, such as the ejector, using advanced numerical modeling.
  • Specify an industrial prototype that is modular, replicable, scalable, and cost-efficient to maximize decarbonization potential.
